perspectives

hey guys

in carlos santana style, this here's an open invitation

in each of your respective views,
what is jazz, what is blues, what is rock? what do they mean to you?
and yep, go ahead, throw in whatever else that occurs to you.
like friend kant says, any ol' categorical imperative'll do.

Wow, man.

You've got it down pat.

I need a moment of inspiration to come up with strains of thought that are comparable in swath. Jeez, Aristotle. You've become formidable. Good stuff.

All right
so what's the deal now? All these categories of music, what are they?

Well, to me, it is all a life approach. For instance, the question about the future of mankind etc. etc.

What do we want to do, d'yu think? Mankind in general, that is. We want to hit OUT. Yes, we need to get to Outer Space.

Any questions about that? We are burning 1000 year old redwood trees in one day thru forest fires. A mere 100 years of urbanization chews up the worth of several geological timescales of work. Think we can keep this up and live on? No way. For good or bad, we've got to spread out, or else the game is up.

We've got maybe something like a couple of hundred years, to REALLY get out there. Are we on target? Well, no. So what do we do to meet this deadline? We've got to come up with a working solution.

That, is the thrust of this question. And why does this have to do with this thread? Well, this here is what I'd like to call the "12 bar" take on how to get to outer space.

12 bar to me in a rough sense signifies the entireity of the genres or whatever it is that we're talking about.

And how come a 12 bar take on how to get to outer space? OK, let's settle that: See, we've got this earth we are living on, us lumps of God knows what. Mankind.
We've had this planet for a million and a half years. What kind of a job have we done? Yeah, it's an old story, it's a told tale, we've got our good side and our bad side.
So what's 12 bar got to do with that? Well, it is one form of human expression which starts out with full awareness that we've lost our cherry. It really knows the morning-after side of us.
AND, IT HAS COME TO TERMS WITH THE CRAPHEAP WE HAVE BECOME, AND, IN SPITE OF THAT, HAS MANAGED TO SUSTAIN A DRIVE. I trip on a good rock'n'roll song even on those occasions when I feel rather deeply that I should kill everybody and go die myself.

So, when it really comes down to it, and we ask ourselves the question, "are we really worth it? Would it not be spreading the blight if we really make it out There?", 12 bar will motivate us. Even when it sucks, you gotta rock on, baby.

So, a 12 bar take.

Yessir, that is what this music means to me.

Most of the times, life and everything pretty much sucks. It is a rare moment of truth/beauty/good that is worthwhile, a very rare moment.

Truth/Beauty/Good <=> Satyam Sivam Sundaram.

For all the duration outside of those Blessed moments, all this unendurable span, what do we do with it? Yep, that is where 12 bar comes in. Keeps us going even when the going is the pits. Take Rock for instance.
Rock is not classical, but classic. Rock has Power. It can Do.

Hence, entelechy. In the sense that even when your instinct tells you to pack up and die, you still live on. Because you are riding on some anthem song or the other.

It is this undercurrent of power that will lead us on.

Long Live Rock. Long Live 12 Bar.

Jazz. On the FM radio, I can listen to jazz all day. Tough to do that with classic rock, even though the songs mean more to me on a personal level. Funny, but so it is.

Jazz is some kind of an undercurrent thing.

We'll be driving across for the Montreal Jazz Fest next month, will have more to say after that.
Yo,

There is an anglo indian stand up comedian named russel peters, here in canada. he says in a couple of hundred years every one will be a standardized "beige", no blacks, pinks, browns or orientals.
i say yea man, yeah.
you know what, the "reds" in yumrikkah have given up on texas. it has too much immigrant (viz. desi) touch to it now, apparently. they've adopted montana as their bastion.

you know what, lets run them to the wall. storm the last bastion. any desi body shop interests in missoula or bozeman, anyone?

yeah, yumrikkans 're incredibly ostrichy and all that, but hey, there's only so much of
b(urp)rittania that we can take, too, isn't it.
notwithstanding trigger happy tv and monty python and yes, the beatles.

lets "beige"ify the damn thing and be done with it.
